Cables and system solutions for drive technology

In drive technology, the trend is towards ever more complex cable systems and fully cabled modules. The quantity of data and speed of transmission are simultaneously rising rapidly. Interference-proof, fixed and dragline-compatible signal and power cables are required. In addition, harsh industrial environments require extremely robust, permanently flexible cables that are long-lasting and reliable under high mechanical loads.

LEONI provides cables and cable systems for motion-controlled drive mechanisms in machine tools (MC = motion control) under the brand name FieldLink MC. LEONI is able to meet the market’s requirements through a smaller outer diameter, application-oriented cable assemblies and the use of special materials.

Extreme demands are imposed on cables for the motors of bottling lines. LEONI has addressed these challenges and found a solution that meets the required properties. Along with adhering to all electrical properties, the cable was to have a pressure hose to provide a small degree of overpressure in the motor casing. This prevents fluids from penetrating. A maximum diameter may furthermore not be exceeded. Due to its worldwide use, the cable must be UL and CSA approved.

The mechanical strain is very high because of the application involving rapid movement, meaning that the cable has to withstand several million flex cycles including some torsional load. Deployment in the food industry also requires resistance to water, oils, acids and aggressive cleaning agents. The outer jacket therefore consists of flame-retardant and halogen-free thermoplastic polyurethane.
